Off to the 2011 Values Voters Summit!

On Saturday, I'll be infiltrating attending the 2011 Values Voters Summit in Washington D.C. Check back in a few days for highlights from the conference!

The Values Voters Summit is a collaborative effort of several key organizations from the Religious Right, including Family Research Council, American Family Association Action, Heritage Foundation, American Values, Liberty University, and Liberty Counsel. A veritable who's who of the American Right, the website lists Rep. Michele Bachmann, Speaker John Boehner, Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Phyllis Schlafly, Tony Perkins, Glenn Beck, Lila Rose, and many others as confirmed speakers this year. The titles of some of this year's breakout sessions say volumes about the tone of the event:

- "Divorcing God: Secularism and the Republic"
- "How the Welfare State Erodes the Family"
- "Exposing and Defunding Planned Parenthood, America's Abortion Giant"
- "Why Christians Should Support Israel"

  1. This should be good. The most important aspect of it to publicize would be any expression of prejudice or exclusion that can apply specifically to Mormons. It's par for the course that they'll bash gays and secularists, but anything that drives a wedge between the fundies and one of the most loyal Republican voting blocs is news to be trumpeted from the rooftops.

  2. Infidel753 -- I'll keep my ears open for anything anti-Mormon.

  3. Really looking forward to your coverage. The participation of Boehner, Cantor, and Romney has me riveted...a strange mass gaggle at another GOP station of the cross (you know, drop off at Trump's, make face at Values Voters, etc.) And they say the OWS is too diffuse! I've spent some time on the sites linked; always appreciate your contributions to my bookmarks bar.

  4. Nance -- Thanks! How high-profile political leaders could appear at an event hosted by the FRC (which the SPLC has labeled a hate group) and the AFA (don't get me started) is beyond me.

  5. Boy&Howdy.... you ARE a glutton for punishment!!!!!!! I can not begin to think of the vast amounts of booze I would need to consume to wash that kind of conference from my consciousness.

    BE SAFE!

  7. Okjimm -- I've been told as much! :D

I'll try to stay safe. Thanks!

Donna -- Given the people speaking at the VVS, I can guarantee that it will be a doozy.

  8. Wow! You're a trooper. Can't wait to read your report.

Break a leg, Ahab. Preferably not your own. (If my vote counts, I think you should clothesline Beck.)

  10. Please let me know where I can send the donation for your aspirin/booze/whatever fund. I have been distracted with mom's health issues lately and have been meaning to thank you for your last post on the anti-abortion loons, and here you are off to infiltrate another gathering of the klans. I am in awe and thank you for your vigilance. Haven't looked into the email thing yet ... soon. Look forward to your report.

I'm sorry to hear that your mother is in poor health. I hope she is comfortable and improves soon.
