  1. The Joseph Smith essay is still pretty watered down- it seems the writers just barely touched the issues at hand then backed away. The essay still paints Joseph Smith the same way as they always have.

The church is grabbing at straws. They're desperate.

    1. Heather -- Sorry for the delay -- it's been a busy week. At least people are forcing the LDS to acknowledge uglier parts of its history.

  2. OMG! Joseph's Myth had more than one wife and some of them were only 14?!

Seriously, that would have been an important thing to know way back when I was 8 and made the "voluntary choice" [cough] to be baptized. Among other equally appalling facts.

I want my tithing back. And about 25 years of my life.

    1. Agi Tater -- It troubles me that the LDS wasn't transparent about this in the past. Believers and would-be converts have a right to know what kind of belief system they're getting into.

I'm reminded of the "milk before meat" line I've heard from fundamentalist evangelicals. It's the idea that new believers should only be taught the basics of their faith at first, but controversial or shocking content is left out until they've solidly invested themselves in their new religion. Talk about leaving out the fine print!
