  1. It strikes me that girls pledging their virginity to their fathers is simply creepy.

    After all, he doesn't own his daughter's sexuality. And, second, what's the deal with virginity, anyway? Why is it worth a formal ball, and not, say, her math grades?

    1. Paul -- It creeps me out too. The whole thing is about reducing women to sexual/reproductive objects, rather than full people. I think it's also motivated by men who want to control their daughter's sexuality. Join the 21st century, folks.
