What Schools Were Like Back Then

Right Wing Watch posted commentary on an episode of God Knows, in which New Apostolic Reformation preacher Cindy Jacobs claimed that school violence erupted only after prayer was removed from public schools in 1962. The claim that school problems can be traced back to the removal of guided school prayer is a well-worn trope among the Religious Right.

Jacobs conveniently ignores problems that existed before 1962, including the pervasiveness of Lovecraftian abominations in our schools. As this 1950s home economics video illustrates, our children had to attend schools that were crawling with otherworldly horrors. I don't want to go back to those times. Do you?

Okay, okay, I promise I'll behave now.

  1. The horror!! The horror!!

If you begin to behave, we will all suffer for it. :)

  2. Michelle -- It's it beautifully horrible? The first time I watched it, I was in awe.

  3. So very typical of the the right-wing personality. Take any two facts, (and I'm not conceding that there is "more" violence now), but then put them together and claim that one "caused" the other. So typical of that type of mind that cannot reason well.

  4. It's gorgeous--I love this kind of stuff, and it's used very effectively with the '50s images. The fact that I haven't read H. P. Lovecraft is a travesty that I must remedy soon. It's time to delve into the FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE.

  5. All I can say is I'm glad all this happened before I was born. What a wicked place this world once was!

  6. Sherry -- Apparently the Religious Right never got the "correlation does not equal causation" memo. They need to look up "post hoc ergo propter hoc."

Cognitive Dissenter -- Yeah, I'll bet those inhuman abominations weren't even religious!
