What a sad story at the Jehovah's Witnesses link. Never mind the loss of income -- those people lost the chance to have knowledge and mental lives as rich as they potentially could have. I'm very fortunate that I was always able to pursue the things that fascinated me, even though it's had almost no impact on my earning potential. These people live in a whole subculture dedicated to stultifying the mind.

"Into" science? Linderer's father talked about science as if it were a drug!
The Jehovah's Witnesses' disdain for education horrifies me. They pressure people to remain ignorant and fearful of new ideas as a means of controlling their congregants. As a result, the congregants' lives are forever stunted. It's evil.
I too am relieved that I was encouraged to learn new things and seek higher education. Others aren't as lucky.
