Looks like the Religious Right lost a major battle this past week.
ReplyDeleteDonna -- Do you mean over the Arizona bill? I'm glad it was defeated.
DeleteI'm afraid "religious liberty" has become a euphemism for "my fundamental right to wallow in ignorance." Ignorance enables abuse and discrimination in all its forms.
ReplyDeleteAgi Tater -- BINGO. This was never about freedom of religious expression. The issue at hand is whether Religious Right folks can engage in legally sanctioned discrimination.
DeleteP.S. Ahab - I noticed your twitter feed at the bottom of this page. Absolutely fabulous that you make your own beer and wine. That pomegranate wine sounds divine. I'm a little jealous. Wanna move to Park City? : )
ReplyDeleteAgi Tater -- I'd happily share my beer and fruit wine with you if I could. The pomegranate wine needs to age for at least six months, and I'm eager to taste the end result. Another batch of strawberry wine, as well as sour cherry wine, are on the itinerary for summer 2014.
DeleteI'd love to hear about your favorites and how (or if) they compare to other beers and wines. Do you use commercial kits or just do your own thing? Mike made his own beer for a time but he used the kits and at some point decided it wasn't worth the work. Pomegranate wine sounds delicious.
DeleteAgi Tater -- I use fresh fruit to make all of my fruit wines. For example, roughly 26 pounds of fresh local strawberries went into my 5-gallon batch of strawberry wine last summer. When I rack the wines, I'll add all-natural fruit juice to raise the liquid level in the carboy.
DeleteI use local wildflower honey to make mead. Fortunately, the local brewing and wine-making supply shop carries regional honey in large quantities.
With beer, I still use kits, although I'd like to transition away from kits and start all-grain brewing this year. I have most of the equipment for all-grain brewing; it's just a matter of taking the leap.
Thanks for the info, Ahab. I'm intrigued by the fruit wines especially and very tempted to try my hand at winemaking.
