Potato Soup for the Apocalypse
This was too pitifully funny not to share. Right Wing Watch just posted a video of televangelist Jim Bakker selling dehydrated survival food. (Mormons and doomsday preppers, take note.)
During the August 10th edition of The Jim Bakker Show, Bakker encouraged his audience to prepare for the possibility of a solar storm EMP taking out the electrical grid. This catastrophe would apparently have something to do with God's judgment for abortion, same-sex marriage, and the end of prayer in school, I construed from the show's commentators.
To survive the disaster, Bakker urged his audience to stock up on bulk dehydrated food such as a 323-serving bucket of potato soup. Check out the 0:28 mark of the video when he tastes some of the soup (a thin, white goop served in a plastic bucket). Hilarious!
Bakker has been selling carbohydrate-heavy survival food and supplies for some time now, warning his fans to prepare for a possible catastrophe (as has Glenn Beck). It's funny and kind of sad. Years after the PTL scandal, Jim Bakker is still trying to make a buck...

"You can have parties when the world's coming apart …"
ReplyDeleteWell what else would be be doing?!
Agi Tater -- Well, it's nice to celebrate birthdays when not fighting off looters or staring at the four walls of the doomsday bunker.
DeleteTrue. I guess it's good to have something to ease the tension when not protecting the Homeland from gays and feminists.
DeleteYup. I remember bean bag chairs filled with wheat, cans of cooking oil (covered in fabric) used for bookshelf supports and being required to "volunteer" at the Deseret canning facility. You weren't really a faithful Mormon if you didn't buy buy buy all the "End Times" foods. After eating a few meals I thought it would have to be the Last Days to eat this stuff.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous -- You'd think those emergency food companies could make their products more palatable. Even Jim Bakker couldn't get it down, judging by the video.
DeleteAnyone who has seen 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' knows that someone always has to turn the mystery crank in the bunker. So, I can see how carbs would be important. :)
ReplyDeleteMichelle -- On a diet of processed carbs like that, let's hope they have some multivitamins in the bunker too.
