  1. When I was a teenager, we were taught the same about the peace symbol in youth group. Just one rock in a mountain of BS.

  2. Bachmann went to ORU's law school?! Good grief.

  3. Michelle -- A Pentecostal classmate told me the same thing about the peace symbol back in middle school, and even then I thought it was nonsense.

What is it these people have against the peace symbol? How can someone not like peace?

  4. On Michele Bachmann's beliefs: I'm sure Perry and Bachmann want to avoid the dominionist label at all costs. It's not their term and they can't control its meaning for nonbelievers. Rachel Maddow had Frank Schaeffer (son of Francis Shaeffer referenced in this article) on her show a few times over a year ago. Afterward, I read two of his books and some of his father's publications. I recommend Frank Schaeffer's Crazy For God to your readers for a better understanding of what we call dominionism. Helps explain her "crazy eyes." ;)

I see there's a new book of his available,Sex, Mom, and God: How the Bible's Strange Take on Sex Led to Crazy Politics—and How I Learned to Love Women (and Jesus) Anyway. And I've never read his 2008 open letter to John McCain published in The Baltimore Sun. If you haven't already used it, that might make for an interesting discussion.

  5. Nance -- I've read Schaeffer's PATIENCE WITH GOD, and loved his wisdom and spiritual maturity. I'm eager to check out CRAZY FOR GOD once I plough through my long to-read list of books.

I'll hunt down that Baltimore Sun commentary. Thanks for the tip.
