One of my favorite bloggers, Jonny Scaramanga of Leaving Fundamentalism, has told me that fellow Brits are often shocked when he talks about his upbringing. "I thought that only happened in the States", is what he usually hears from people.

I don't know if you are familiar with his blog, here's a link:

http://leavingfundamentalism.wordpress.com/ Sheldon Cooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17660822618786253558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5077809256320470141.post-50352541736977150072013-02-07T18:12:57.095-05:002013-02-07T18:12:57.095-05:00The religious right has it's head in the sand ...The religious right has it's head in the sand up on more than one issue. They say marriage "has never before been redefined", but the very fact that in most countries it no longer includes polygamy -- which it did include for most of history -- shows that it has indeed been redefined before.

England's largest sect, the Church of England, was actually founded by King Henry VIII because he wanted a divorce and the Catholic Church, dominant in England up to that point, wouldn't give him one. It's a church that came into existence for the sole purpose of changing a fundamental rule about marriage. Now, of course, they too object to "redefining marriage" to include gays, which is of course "different", though no one can articulate exactly how.Infidel753https://www.blogger.com/profile/10965786814334886696noreply@blogger.com
