The film is still garbage, though.Ahabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14675629709031865432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5077809256320470141.post-11404205129862440912015-11-02T03:26:36.219-05:002015-11-02T03:26:36.219-05:00I can't help it -- I really find this more fun...I can't help it -- I really find this more funny than disturbing. Yes, the message is godawful and the execution is apparently the usual blunderbuss blundering found in right-wing "art", but anyone from outside the fundamentalist bubble who happened to see this would come away convinced (if it affected them at all) that fundies are bizarre aliens who talk funny. No normal person behaves or speaks anything like the way these characters do. It's far too goofy to be effective propaganda to anyone who wasn't already firmly on board with its world-view.

I was rather surprised at your description of this movie as a "box office success" since right-wing propaganda films, especially religious ones, rarely do well -- so I looked it up. It has grossed a total of just under $70 million so far, almost all of that within the United States -- certainly not a flop, but a pretty modest take by today's standards. It's a success mainly in the sense that its extremely low production cost meant that most of that was profit. It must be quite a hit with fundie audiences, but I can't imagine this weird production making any waves beyond that subculture.Infidel753https://www.blogger.com/profile/10965786814334886696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5077809256320470141.post-65845824424874636132015-11-01T23:28:27.825-05:002015-11-01T23:28:27.825-05:00"The central message of War Room is dangerous..."The central message of War Room is dangerous, since it urges Christian women to stay with toxic partners instead of taking action to protect themselves and their children."

Disempowering women is the one thing that all religions seem to have in common. At least that has been my observation. Makes me wonder what those religions are all so afraid of.

Nice review. That said, I can't imagine how you were able to stomach this toxic load of tripe, Ahab!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05362339037879270082noreply@blogger.com
